Postcards at the Urbanscape.

June 27, 2009 Kuala Lumpur celebrated their 2nd annual art festival at Kuala Lumpur Performance Art Center, KLpac organize by KLUE magazine. This event prove to be an event that had open people’s eyes at the sheer intensity of the art world of Malaysia that had greatly grown from an infancy sometime ago. Though this may seem like a good account to the general perception that Malaysians are incline to the arts, but it is still far from there as it is yet, because a developed nation is not of its economy and the minds but also the general acceptance of art. Art is perhaps crucial in every nation as it is the symbol of everything iconic, Malaysia has none ( the original tribute ) but it has shown promising signs that it will have one soon enough. The general public needs to be educated on art because the general aesthetic idea has become so stereotypical that it has no sense of beauty to it: brick plastered walls, painted white, pitch homes, shinny tiles, pictured traditional images or ornaments, the people needs to be more inclined to play more with their creativity to become more genuine more authentic and more.

The fact that the mass majority of the public are adults in their late 40, the younger generation which are those who participate this event, will perhaps eradicate art illiteracy amongst the mass public in the near future. When that day comes, Malaysia will be a place that many can be proud to look at and appreciate – Rome was not built in one day and so is a nation, and the same goes for the love of art and the acceptance in the world we live in.

It was a wonderful experience to be able to see art works scattered around KLpac, from the walls, the lobby, the corridors and arounf here and there, i just wish KLpac was a lot larger in size because it was too small to accommodate people and art works at one time, but it was just enough i suppose.  There were screenings of Malaysian Inddie Movies, Photography exhibitions, Art Displays, Concerts, Yard Sale, Food Fiesta, Concerts, and Raves. I enjoyed most of it, and i believe many more felt the same as we were there to experience the creative young minds of many.

Everyone was entertained and mix around with people who spoke the same language which is of love of art, Independence, individuality, and above all originality.

To be frank above all, i enjoyed DJ Fono the most, from 8 till 10pm at The Box ( ground floor hall)  it was progressive genre all the way – totally awesome. A little of a symbolic expression of a progression of the arts to which one day we all can be happy to see what a wonderful country we have made out of the simple understanding and appreciation of the Arts.
