Meet Dave is a 2008 American comedy film, directed by Brian Robbins and starring Eddie Murphy. The film was co-written by Bill Corbett (formerly of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame) and Rob Greenberg. The film was released by 20th Century Fox on July 11, 2008.

On New York’s Liberty Island a massive fireball crash lands, with a man emerging unscathed. He’s Dave, a human-shaped spaceship controlled by 100 aliens, each one an inch tall. Its captain (also played by Murphy) pilots the Dave Spaceship along with his crew from inside its head. The aliens are seeking a way to save their planet, Nil, from an energy crisis by draining the Earth’s Oceans for salt. However, complications arise when the Captain falls in love with single mother Gina Morrison (Elizabeth Banks). More complications arise when the police begin tracking Dave from the crash site. While the Captain struggles to keep their identity hidden, his best friend, Commander Number 3 (Gabrielle Union) is secretly in love with him and becomes jealous of Gina. Now he must choose between Gina or his true love within Number 3

You Don’t Mess with the Zohan

You Don’t Mess with the Zohan is a 2008 comedy film about Zohan Dvir (in Hebrew phonetics: זוהן דביר), Israel’s hero and their greatest counter-terrorism army commando who, after growing tired of his Israeli post-draft’s standing service, fakes his own death in order to pursue his dream: becoming a hairstylist in New York. The story was written by Adam Sandler, Judd Apatow and Robert Smigel, and was directed by Dennis Dugan. Sandler’s production company Happy Madison produced the film, while it was distributed by Columbia Pictures. It was released on June 6, 2008. UK release date is August 8, 2008

As of June 30, 2008, Rotten Tomatoes reports that 33% of critics gave the film positive reviews, based on 138 reviews—with the consensus that the film “features intermittent laughs, and will please Sandler diehards, but after awhile the leaky premise wears thin.”Metacritic reported the film had an average score of 54 out of 100, based on 35 reviews—indicating mixed or average reviews.

John Podhoretz, in The Weekly Standard, wrote that the movie has a “mess” of a plot and features, “as usual for Sandler, plenty of dumb humor of the sort that gives dumb humor a bad name, but that delights his 14-year-old-boy fan base”. But the film also has an “unusual” amount of “tantalizing comic ideas” so that “every 10 minutes or so, it makes you explode with laughter.”
On the positive side, TIME claimed the film to be a “laugh riot”, and Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film 3 out of 4 stars. David Edelstein of New York Magazine went as far as to say “Adam Sandler is mesmerizing” and A.O Scott of The New York Times said it was “the finest post-Zionist action-hairdressing sex comedy I have ever seen”. Entertainment Weekly gave the movie a C+ grade, calling it “another ‘mess’ from Sandler” which is, unlike Monty Python, a “circus that never flies”.

It was just plain dumb fun, is why.” Ebert also states that it is the best in the series. Nathan Rabin of The Onion’s A.V. Club also gave a positive review, who said the film “succeeds largely through sheer excess.” William Arnold of Seattle Post-Intelligencer gave a mildly positive review, saying that “anyone in the market for an overblown and totally mindless adventure-comedy will certainly get his money’s worth.”

Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times said the film “has some good things [but] does not have enough of them to make the third time the charm.” Ken Fox of TV Guide called the film “passable popcorn fare.” Jennie Punter of The Globe and Mail said the film is “kind of fun, but the twists and turns are all too familiar.” Michael Sragow of the Baltimore Sun said the film is “like an Indiana Jones movie without rhythm, wit or personality, just a desperate, headlong pace.” Elizabeth Weitzman of the New York Daily News said that “boredom is the very basis of this sequel.”

Pete Hammond of Back Stage said that the next installment in the series should be a Broadway musical, not a film. Matt Stephens of E! described it as “stale plotting, cheesy CGI, and cadaver-stiff acting.”] Jane Horwitz of Washington Post said it “borrows mightily” from Indiana Jones and martial arts films. Ty Burr of Boston Globe states: “Despite exotic locations, epic cinematography, and much spectacular crash and bang, this “Mummy” feels like a threadbare toss-off.” Richard Corliss of Time magazine while praising the final fight scene between Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh, described it as two movies: “a good adventure epic, with all the Chinese people, and a wan one, with O’Connells and the other the Westerners.”Jake Coyle of Starpulse states: “Like recent films such as “300″ or the new “Indiana Jones,” Tomb of the Dragon Emperor uses history like a prop — a loose costume for ludicrous plot lines and great movies that are amazing and worth while.”Chris Hewitt of TwinCities.com said that Rachel Weisz “comes off best” for opting out and criticised Maria Bello’s performance.
